FAQ

·       Where does Death by 5k take place?

o   Death by 5k events take place in municipal parks, state parks, and other similar venues. Each venue allows tent and car camping. We are looking for additional venues that have parking, green space for camping, electric and water sources and a good 5k route nearby. If you have an idea for a location, contact us via the Location Suggestion form on this site.

·       Can I leave the race area in between 5ks?

o   Yes, at most venues you can leave and return. However at some venues this is discouraged if the park is closed to the public. You must be present at the start of each 5k.

·       Can I have a friend run one or two of the 5ks with me?

o   We ask that only registered participants run with the field

·       Can my spouse camp with me at the event site?

o   Yes. But we generally ask any spouses/family/friends to stay onsite overnight. Some venues officially close overnight and discourage leaving and entering the park after closing time

·       Is it the same 5k route each time?

o   Yes

·       Can I camp/rest/sleep in my vehicle?

o   Yes

·       Can I bring my camper or truck tent?

o   Each venue is different regarding campers/vans/trunk tents, etc.  Look to your participant handbook for venue specific details. (the participant handbook is sent out two weeks prior to each event)

·       What kind of hot food is provided?

o   Our usual menu is pancakes and bacon, chicken and cheese quesadillas, pizza, cups of noodles and chocolate pancakes and bacon. This may vary based on access to factors like available power, inclement weather, etc.

·       What kind of snacks and drinks are provided?

o   Cookies, crackers, donuts, applesauce, pudding, fruit and other snacks in various quantities are provided throughout the event. We also provide water and mixed Gatorade.

·       Are these events all on dirt trails or paved surfaces?

o   About half of our events take place on paved paths/trails and half on single track/dirt/grass/gravel trails. Read the race specific details on the registration page for this info.

·       Can I get a refund after I register?

o   We do not offer refunds but we do allow deferrals to next year’s event, or a transfer to another venue

·       Can I transfer my registration to a friend?

o   Yes, but this must be done at least two weeks prior to the event

·       What happens if dangerous weather occurs?

o   In the event of dangerous weather (lightning, high winds, hail, tornado, etc) we will cancel one or more of the scheduled 5ks. If we are unable to continue with any 5ks we will cancel all remaining 5ks.

·       Will there be Death by 5k branded merchandise for sale at the event?

o   Yes. Generally we have hoodies, hats, long and short sleeve tech shirts, last year’s race shirts and beanies. We also sell some run specialty products such as Goodr sunglasses, Nathan race belts, headlamps, and handheld water bottles, along with salt stick chews, Squirrel’s Nut Butter anti chafe sticks, and more.

·       Can I just run all ten 5ks without stopping?

o   No. This event is designed to challenge runners in different ways than a typical 50k. Additionally, the social facet of the field coming together ten times is an important part of the event. Lastly, we use chip timing that is set to work only with the 2.5 hour breaks. Any other way of running the event will result in a DNF
